News and Information

Due to the pandemic in Vietnam, a travel ban was issued by the government in early 2020. Impact Health Vietnam’s cardiac and primary care missions that were planned for 2020 and 2021 had to be cancelled. The Oncology mission however has been able to go virtual during the Covid restrictions and remains active, productive and successful.

In 2021, with a generous grant from Fairview Medical Missions, Impact Health Vietnam was able to donate a set of surgical instruments to Can Tho Central General Hospital, valued at $10,000 USD. These micro surgical instruments are essential to the emerging coronary artery bypass surgery program of Can Tho Heart Center.

The tele-pathology program continues to grow both in frequency and case numbers. Eleven diagnostic cases were consulted via Zoom between Dr. Vanessa Dayton and the pathologists of Blood Transfusion & Hematology Hospital (BTH) in Saigon. In 2021, IHVN facilitated a total of 46 cases, as reported by BTH. Since the beginning of 2022, there have been weekly cases involving consultation via Zoom between Dr. Dayton and BTH Pathology Lab.

We are looking forward to resuming our in-person medical missions to Vietnam as soon as the country can safely lift its Covid restrictions and allow our mission volunteers to travel again.
